The Fish Sniffer - Ice Is Out Now
Ice Is Out Now

Written By: Dan Bacher, March 6, 2014
Species: Trout
Location: Frenchman Lake, Davis Lake,

Frenchman Lake is free of ice and both boat ramps are accessible, reported Richard Wiggin of Wiggin’s Trading Post.

“Bob Parry , a regular fisherman at the lake, has opened a guide service called Hooked on Fishing here in Chilcoot,” said Wiggin. “He has had lots of experience fishing Frenchman Lake and knows where the fish are and how to get ‘em.”

On his latest fishing adventure, he caught his limit of rainbows at the narrows while using rainbow PowerBait.

Good trout fishing is also available for the few anglers venturing to Lake Davis, which is also free of ice. Anglers are catching rainbows ranging from 18 to 20 inches while fishing PowerBait, Power Eggs, nightcrawlers and Pautzke salmon eggs in Mallard Cove.

The lake level has risen with recent storms and the lake is now 65 percent of capacity, according to J&J Grizzly Store and Camping Resort in Portola.
