August 2000

The Bass Busters held its eighth tournament and the second of two night tournaments at Lake Mc Clure. Starting at 6:00 PM and weighing our catch on Sunday morning at 8:00 AM did make for a long night and a long drive home. At the start of the tournament it was VERY hot, 102 degrees according to the thermometer in my Chevy. There was a very slight breeze but not enough to even cool you off. Meteor showers all night had a few of us looking up quite often!! We also had to deal with a slot limit requiring our fish to be at least 15 inches! (Yuk) As the night progressed it didn't cool too much. The water on the main lake was pretty stirred up during the day. The areas that the skiers couldn't get to were clearer than the main body. The water temperature reached 84.9 degrees when we started and only went down to about 82 degrees. There were 20 fish caught and the total was 32.30 Lbs. for an average fish weighing in at 1.6 Lbs

Rene Duzak and Matt Fellion First Place goes to Rene Duzak and Matt Fellion. Rene and Matt took the honors with one of the only two limits weighed in. Five fish for 8.50 Lbs. led them to the victory. They caught their fish with crankbaits; Spit'n'image topwater and a midnight special spinnerbait.

Cliff Herron and Mark Dimas Cliff Herron and Mark Dimas were in second place with the only other limit of the tournament. Their five fish limit weighed in at 7.82 Lbs. Mark threw rip baits and caught mostly 14-inch fish as Cliff split shotted flukes wherever he got a fish and picked up the better fish. Interestingly enough they said they only caught fish when it was light outside and when it was dark they had a tough time.

Kyle Mulhair

Third Place went to Henry Silva and Kyle Mulhair. We had four fish but only weighed three because one was called under 15 inches. So after the one was taken out, we weighed three for 4.60 Lbs. Our official total weight ended up at 3.60 Lbs. After the penalty of having a short fish, we got our fish on 8-inch Pumpkin Chartreuse power worms and 8" blue ghost with tipped with Chartreuse. We found our fish about 15 feet deep and caught them all night long.

Terry Landsdowne and Steve Mazzie finished in Fourth Place. Terry and Steve weighed in two fish for 3.44 Lbs. Terry said that while he slept and had a beautiful breakfast, Matt boated the two fish using a white fat free shad.

Fifth Place saw Hass and Sunny with 2 fish for a total of 3.42 lbs. Because of a dead fish they had their official weight ended up at 3.22 Lbs. Hass and Sunny flipped grubs on football heads right on the bank to get their fish. They said their best bite was from 9:00PM to about 2:00 AM.

In Sixth Place was Sego and Rob Day. They caught a lot but could only come up with one keeper. The good news is that was the big fish of the tournament. They got it on grub split shotted at about 4:00 Am. It weighed in at 3.60 Lbs.

To wrap up the field and take Seventh place was Jake Newby and Ed Hawkins. They got one fish for 1.92 Lbs. on a white speed trap.

Mc Clure Big Fish
1st Sego: 2.60 lbs.
2nd Hass and Sunny: 4.08 Lbs.
