BRAID HELP
Nov 4th, 2009 at 11:09am

I use 65lb power pro braid on my spinning reel's. I always back it with mono. Is there any other way to load up braid on the reel without using mono? I would like to have more braid and was wondering if anybody uses anything different for backing. Undecided

You only need to cover the bottom of the spool with mono.. Thats like 1-2 yards max.

I'll run up to half the spool with mono to save on braid and get 2 reels done. I've never run into the mono backing on a fish..  Undecided maybe cuz I only catch small fish  Cry

Black electrical tape or white cloth medical tape will do the trick...I use mono though....

It's black tape for me. One or two wraps is all it takes. It just creates enough friction to keep it from spinning on the spool.

Wrap a few yards of electrical tape around the spool.

I've been using electrical tape on all my reels with braided line and it's been working great. Make sure the braided line is spun on the reel tight, if it's loose it might slip on the spindle.
