A Must Have For Tournament Fishermen

Stren Cul-M-Rite As every tournament fisherman knows, nothing eats up valuable time like culling fish. Stren's recent introduction is the latest innovation in hand held tournament scales and judging by the number of anglers seen using the Cul-M-Rite in any of the latest B.A.S.S. tournaments, it is obvious that this is one important tool that is catching on quickly.

Just what is the Stren Cul-M-Rite? Well, it is basically a hand-held tournament scale and computer that simplifies the time-consuming culling process by storing the weights of the bass in your limit and identifying, with color coded floats, which bass to cull when you catch a bigger one. Until now, anglers have been weighing their fish and writing down the weights on a small board with a grease pen. This system works fine when the fishing is tough, but can quickly turn into a nightmare when the bite is hot. The weights are easily erased and inevitably that board is going to get wet or end up face down on the deck of the boat and your weights are lost. And if it's raining, forget it!

When you catch a bass, weigh it with the Cul-M-Rite and hold the 'enter' button down. The weight is automatically stored and assigned a color to match one of the seven lanyard floats, included, and put the fish in the livewell. When you catch your limit, (you set the limit, from one to seven bass) hit the 'total' button, and it displays your current limit weight.

Catch another keeper, and the Cul-M-Rite tells you if it's heavier than a fish in your livewell. If it is, it tells you which color coded float to retrieve. Switch the float over to the heavier fish and hold the 'enter' button, and the weight is replaced.

Another key to the Stren Cul-M-Rite is its accuracy compared to other scales on the market. We compared weights using the certified mail scales here at The Fish Sniffer office, and found the Cul-M-Rite to be consistently right on target, as opposed to some of the other less expensive digital scales that almost always erred, one way or both ways, by a couple of ounces or more.

Now Stren has raised the Cul-M-Rite's performance level by letting you change the readout from ounces to tenths and hundredths of a pound! In testing the original Cul-M-Rite that read in ounces, we found that occasionally two bass would weigh the same, and a balance beam would be necessary to determine the heavier one. Now with the digital readout in decimal places, there's seldom a situation where a balance beam is needed.

Here's good news if the unit is out of your price range, but you would still like an extremely accurate scale. Stren will soon be introducing the new Stren Digital Scale. With a 50 pound capacity, this water resistant unit will be a big step up in technology. The best news is the price; it will retail in the neighborhood of 35 bucks!
