P Line's New CXX X-Tra Strong Is The Perfect Combination Of Strength And Castability

With the introduction of P-Line's new CXX X-Tra Strong last year, the line was touted as one of the strongest on the market while maintaining a low spool memory, a rare combination indeed. Well, after a year of fishing CXX X-Tra Strong, I can honestly say it lives up to all the hype. This line is absolutely bulletproof and has made its way onto 90 percent of the reels I own.

Whether fishing spinnerbaits or jigs through heavy timber or dart heading 4 inch plastic worms on the nastiest of rockpiles, CXX X-Tra Strong performs flawlessly in either application.

I found the 15 pound line to be the top all around line for throwing spinnerbaits, jigs, soft jerk baits or any other method that requires lines with high impact or abrasion resistant qualities. In the past, I wouldn't be caught dead throwing jigs or jerkbaits on 15 pound test, but this stuff is tougher than any 20 or 25 pound test line that I have used, and it handles much easier.

When it comes to finesse fishing with darter heads, the 6 pound CXX X-Tra Strong performs like a dream. The line is extremely durable and lays out flat cast after cast. The low stretch transmits bites better than other lines and allows for extremely positive hook sets. The 8 pound test is almost unbreakable and I will use it for most of my split-shotting, but the line does have a bit more memory than the 6 pound test. The problem is easily taken care of by stretching out the line before each use.

The 12 pound test has proven to be an ideal combination of strength and softness and it has made its way on to all of my crankin' and rippin' rods. It would be nice to be able to crank with lighter line allowing our baits to run deeper, but one nick on that light line and you stand to lose an expensive new crank bait, or worse yet, that kicker that might be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars. The 12 pound CXX X-Tra Strong is tough enough to stand up to the worst conditions, yet thin enough to get your bait down and make long casts.

P Line can be found at most tackle stores or contact them directly at Box 140 Brisbane, California, 94005. (415) 468-0452

In other news, there's a new product on the market for the shore bound angler. It's called the FloatDucer floating transducer. The FloatDucer is actually a Lowrance 20 degree, 192 kHz transducer attached to 50 feet of cable that will connect to any Lowrance sonar unit equipped with the new-style black connector. The transducer is mounted in the center of an 8 inch buoyant, plastic floating collar that can be thrown like a frisbee.

Now, the shore bound angler has the opportunity to locate key fish holding structure from the bank, a dock or even a bridge. The idea for a floating transducer originated with "match-style" bank fishing tournaments that are popular in European countries.

I can think of numerous applications where this handy little unit would be a great advantage. I have always wanted to survey a few local ponds that can only be fished from shore and this would also be a great tool when looking for hot spots for salmon and stripers along the Sacramento River. For more information, call 1-800-324-4770. Lowrance also has a web site at: http://www.lowrance.com.
