ALMANOR RAINBOWS, BROWNS & KINGS
by Ashley Quadros
(Chester) Spring is in full swing and heavy fish chatter is on the radio airways. The most popular spot anglers seem to be concentrating at is the Dorado on the East Shore. Doug Neal of Almanor Fishing Adventures informed us the Dorado has had a lot of action and that action comes with a price tag tooheavy competition!
With too many boats crowding the Dorado, Neal explored another area he frequents in the spring for action, Almanor West. He referred to this area as the spring bite for a reason. After fishing the Almanor West for just one day, Neal confirmed his suspicions: Almanor West produced the best day of 2012 the season.
If you want browns and rainbows, be sure to check out Almanor West before its gets as crowded as the Dorado. The trout are ranging from 2 to 3 lbs. and the bite is strong! If you want heavy action with limited anglers, this is the spot.
Almanor West, the East Shore, Lake Cove and the Dorado are all hot right now. Even Rec. 1 to Bunell Point has had reports of 4 lb. browns from using Dodger/crawler combos 20 ft down. Its unknown how long we can take advantage of these conditions, so grab your gear and get out there today!

Great Places to Fish
The Feather River system is fed by most of the North Sierras. It features salmon runs and a large native trout population. Lake Almanor has trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish and carp. Eagle Lake is home of the Eagle Lake Trout, an alkaline variety that grow so large that a 3 pounder is considered a "so what" catch. Other lakes to consider are Lake Oroville, Bucks Lake, and New Bullards Bar Reservoir. All are productive warm water fisheries. Antelope Lake, Butt Valley Reservoir, and Juniper Lake are good bets for trout. The area is also crossed by many creeks loaded with rainbow and brook trout.
