Casting upstream, the fly landed perfectly at the edge of the fast current of the main channel of the Williamson River. The leech pattern sunk as it passed the driftboat, the current taking it fifty feet downstream where a back eddy slowed it. The redband hit it hard and took off downstream! All my attempts to turn the fish were futile and I was well into the backing on the 7 wt. rod when the trout came out of the water in a slow graceful arch. We heard the slap as it plunged back into the river in an enormous splash. It was so big; it looked more like a salmon than a trout!
