Dubbing
Dubbing is used as a body material for many nymph patterns and is widely used in the Western US for dry fly bodies where more buoyancy is required than a standard thread body can provide.
Taking the bobbin in your left hand, pull it about six inches toward yourself and apply a small amount of dubbing wax to the thread.
Evenly place the dubbing material along the thread, it will stick to the wax.
Gently roll the dubbing back and forth between your thumb and index finger. This will begin to compress the dubbing. By moving a little up and dow the thread, you can achieve even distribution and thickness.
Continue working your way down the thread until you have enough to get the job done. Don't worry about making too much, it can easily be taken off the thread. If you want a rough natural look to your body, wrap the dubbing loosely. If you want a smooth look, or are tying a small fly, make your dubbing tighter and thinner.
Now you're ready to make a body!
