Dodge Diesel, great truck for towing, everyday driving you name it. I get upto 18.5 everyday and loaded doing 65 up donner with the boat and all the crap we took to pyramid and eagle I only saw it drop to 12.5mpg. way better than my last gas truck.

Re: looking at new trucks, what do you tow with?

Once you've towed with a diesel, you'll never go back. I agree with Empire. Get more truck than you think you'll need. I tow with a Dodge 2500 with the Cummins. I wish I had the 3500. The beauty of a diesel is that you can haul a good sized truck camper and tow a boat as big as yours at the same time. My camper and boat each weigh about 3,000 lb. So I'm over weight for a 3/4 ton and I really could use the better brakes of the 3500.

As far as 4X4 goes, if you don't launch at steep, slippery ramps, you probably don't need it. Having 4X4 reduces both your maximum load capacity and your mileage. But when you need it, it's there. I have used 4X4 quite a bit when pulling my boat out.

All of the 2007 diesel trucks are first year models. I would recommend getting a good deal on a 2006 Dodge. It is a proven platform and the engine doesn't have EGR like the 2007. It generally takes a few years to work the bugs out of new engines and technologies.

Get diesel and double your pulling mpg. My Dodge gasser got 8 pulling the boat, my new diesel gets 15 - 16 mpg. I also have a cabover on my list of toys.

Ford F250 Super Duty Power Srtroke Diesel.I might not need all the power. But I don't have any slow downs pulling my travel trailer or my boat.
I really don't know why I didn't get one sooner.

Dodge 2500 diesel or Toyota Tundra if the truck is physically big enough for your personal needs, it will pull the boat no problem !

Whatever you choose, get more than you think you need. A truck not only has to pull a boat, it has to stop the boat too.

I switched to diesel a couple years ago, it is great. I can pass cars going up hill, no problem.

Re: looking at new trucks, what do you tow with?

I bought a new 2001 Chev. X-cab Z71. I've pulled my travel trailer to Wyoming & back with no problems. I will never think of not having 4X4. Lately, I am wanting to have a cabover camper. Now I wish i'd have purchased a 3/4 ton. Weigh the uses you expect to encounter & purchase accordingly. Size matters.
