    Re: poor bambi.......

The bow in the picture is not mine......after everyone was through hunting we went to retrieve my buck and knowing the buck was dead I left my bow at the truck....I borrowed my buddies bow to take a picture..I shoot a Martin Jaguar with 70# draw.....an excellent bow....the broadhead I shoot is a 100 grain rocky mountain titanium broadhead ...the arrows - I still haven't figured out what they are.the only place I can find them is in a small shop in Fresno.....they are a carbon arrow with one inch of the tip wider than the shaft...excellent penitration....the guys I hunted with were astonished with them and are going to try to get some.....shooting a 3D target at the same range their arrows stick in the target..mine go through....I also use a feather fletching instead of plastic.....give me just that much more speed......I shot this deer at around 43 yards...anywho here's the story:

got a call last week from Paul wanting to know what I was doing on the opener of A zone .....of course I was working.......he invited me over for an afternoon hunt so I snuck out early and made the 2 1/2 hour drive to Paul's house........I meet him and his freind Mark and we go over a map of the area we'll be hunting......we head out around 4:30 and get into the stands we'll be hunting from....after an hour or so I hear something behind me and turn to see 2 spikes come off the hill from where Pauls stand was......I watched them for awhile and turned back towards the feild I was watching and see a nice buck and doe standing there looking right at me.....busted.........they take off walking away from me and I figure thats it........I noticed movement through the tree that was to my left and made out 3 deer moving towards me.....a doe and 2 forked horns.....I sat and watched them work their way to me for what seemed like an eternity.......I stand up to see if I might be able to shoot over the tree and the tri pod stand I'm in squeeked alerting the 3 deer.......I froze and they soon went back to feeding........I then sat back down and tried to figure out where I would be able to get a clear shot.....one of the bucks comes out at what I thought was 40 yards and stands facing me feeding.....I stand up and get ready for a shot and the buck turns broadside facing the other buck that just walked out into the open.........I pull back, aim and let my arrow fly.........right under the buck...they both bolt.....not wanting to even look up I grab another arrow, calm myself a bit and look......to my surprize the buck I shot at was standing broadside in front of a small tree I earlier ranged at 45 yards.....I put my 40 yard pin on him and let loose....everything kind of went in slow motion at this point as I watched my arrow ark up and then down to hit the mark......I watched the buck run through some tree's and then heard it crash.........was too cool....we found the buck about 100 yards from where I shot it.

BirdDawg Congrats. Most people don't realize just how much practice and preperation it takes to archery hunt. Is that a PSE ? Overdraw ? What Arrows, Broadheads, Distance. I used to archery hunt and I still enjoy the stories. I like to hear about the advances in technology with the new equipment also. Thanks Kneedeep.

    Looks kinda dark out?
you mean you can shoot them in the day too?......... ;D......actually I shot this buck around 7:30 in the evening....it ran 100 yards and dropped.......I was hunting with 2 other guys so I pulled out of the area with one of my buddies and let the other guy finish his hunt......we went and retrieved this buck later....just about dusk...in the pick it looks darker than it actually was.
