I was wondering if anyone recommended any specific fly line for shad fishing in the upper American river. I have a cheap 8 weight pole that I was going to use and don't want to spend much on line. I was thinking I should be able to tie on maybe 10 foot of sink tip line onto my floating line. I was thinking about getting the below lines. Some of the lines say type 3 or 8 does that mean the weight or the depth? Please let me know if you think these lines would work good or if i should try something else. Thanks.

Yosemite Rivers Fly Shop Annual Spring Party
Saturday, May 4th, 2013 - Oakhurst, California

Yosemite Rivers Flyshop, founded by Sierra Fly Fisher guide Jimmie Morales, will be celebrating its 6th year of operation. The shop operates seasonally near of the south entrance of Yosemite National Park in Oakhurst; east of Fresno, CA. Join us for this annual spring event, or plan on popping by as the season progresses. This Saturday’s event will include a BBQ, raffle, casting pond and some great guests.

Wayne Luallen has tied most every type of fly he could get his vise clamped onto since 1974. He has demonstrated at numerous local, regional, national, and international events, including National FFF Conclaves since 1980. Wayne received the Federation of Fly Fisher's Buz Buszek Memorial Fly Tying Award in 1991. He is especially fond of teaching the details of fly tying thru better understanding of the nature of tying materials as well as better application and use of tying thread.

Steve Fernandez started tying flies professionally at age 13 for Southern California fishing shops and by 16 was demonstrating and teaching throughout the area. When he was 17, he was featured in the April 1977 edition of Field and Stream magazine. He received the 2012 Buz Buszek Memorial Award by the International Federation of Fly Fishers. He will be making the trek to Oakhurst from Southern California.

George Bovine has been fly fishing for the last 43 years, mostly for trout. He has taught fly fishing and casting for Sage rods, Clearwater House in Northern California, and several clubs and shops in the bay area. Look for him tying some flies for the sierra, attractors as well as hatch matchers.

John Sherman is a multi-faceted angler. In addition to being the regional Simms rep. John is a top photographer and his photography can be found, well, everywhere! John will be showcasing the spring SIMMS line.

Hutch Hutchinson is not only the Orvis regional manager but also an accomplished angler and caster. Hutch puts on a fantastic casting seminar, and we expect no less when he rolls into town.

South Lake Tahoe's Mikey Wier will be on hand to represent Cal Trout. An original Trout Bum, Mikey is a forward thinking fellow angler who hails from a legacy of pro snowboarding and his own adventure sports video production operation: Burl Media.

Niel Poltz is a bass bug fanatic who is rapidly becoming a recognized boutique production tyer. Niel will be on hand to demonstrate the creation of his bugs.

Last but not least, the Sierra Fly Fisher guide crew will be on hand to share their regional wisdom and let you know where the best local Mexican food can be found!

Check Sierra Fly Fisher’s Facebook Page for expanded spotlights on these great anglers: http://facebook.com/sierraflyfisher
