Atavuss aka Ed and I met up about 7 am and headed to Sandy Beach for a day’s Striper troll. Ed get the 1st hit and we’re on our way…not. We get nothing until the tide turns but in the mean time, I take Ed to Walnut Grove and give him a grand tour of the Old Sac River.
After the tide turns, we head back to our initial starting point and boated 4 four and miss 4 or 5 hits but no stick.
Ended the day about 4pm. Wind was high in the morning but settled down in the afternoon.

Thanks Ed for your company.

I was fishing for shad on the AR the other day. A Striper fisherman on a kayak was hoping we would catch a shad for him to use as bait. When I mentioned that I would try trolling or casting lures from his kayak, he said that at this time of the year, the Stripers will only bite on a Shad. Now maybe the hogs won't bite lures as much, but I know that I have caught schoolies in early June, and in the past I caught a large Striper in the morning on July, 4th on a topwater plug.Is there any truth to this?

if the tide at say rio vista bridge is high at say 8 oclock will the tide closer to the bay be sooner or later. I am assuming that it is sooner but I am fishing tomarrow and trying to figure out when to go. does any one know how far you would have to go to have the tide an hour different. I have heard that if you have a high tide in sacramento on the sac river it is about three hours less in rio vista. so i think that would be about 15 miles for and hour. i know one of you guys know.

thanks in advance

The Delta Pro Fishing and Fish Sniffer trip on the delta was a huge success. Launched out of Brannan Island and we didn't have to make too far of a run. Started near the Rio Vista Bridge and ended up catching several fish first thing in the morning while trolling shallow. Once we ran over the school several times the bite shutoff but we were still marking fish. Decided to make a move below the bridge so we could give those fish a break. The move quickly paid off with a nice fish. Fished this spot for a couple of more keepers and then tried the West Bank for one quick troll for Nada! Then we decided to go back to our original spot and the fish were obviously ready to eat again and quickly completed the limits. Take a look at the video to see a short recap of the day! Enjoy

Seon and I met at flag city at 0530 and headed to Sandy Beach where we hooked up with Ed, AKA Atavuss. We got the gear squared away and splashed the FV Reel Kahuna. We had a stiff wind out of the north, we started our troll at the west bank. Water conditions were not the best, a lot of grass, we shot over to Decker with the same results, quite a bit rougher on that side, so Seon make the decision to run up north to the Old Sac River.
Started our shallow trolling, not long into the troll Seon strikes the first blow

A nice one, we worked that area for awhile and (I believe, my memory??) Seon hooks up again, this one we measured but no picture, it also went into the box. A stop at Vieira’s for ice and we were at it again. I finally get a hook up

After that it was a dry spell with a couple shakers, and some worm stealers. We started trolling up river past Long island. Switched to BBR’s and went to the bridge. Found some fish around the bridge but no one seemed to be hungry. I finally get another one

We worked around the bridge for sometime for no hits so we trolled up river. Up about a mile Ed and I get a double, Ed’s comes off and so does mine. When I get the lure in I see scales on a hook and 2 hooks straighten out, I know I know, change those damn hooks
Poor Ed had the

On him
Finally Seon switches rods with him, we go back to the shallows and Ed gets hit, Woo Hoo, Ed boats his first.

We work that area and Ed get the devil fish, lines get a little tangled, but didn’t lose the fish

Headed to Rio Vista alone this time. Put in at 3pm at sandy beach.Windy, very windy. Headed across to troll the dairy. Nada. Up to the ferry, troll the west bank, nada. Very few boats if any. Headed up to one of my my favorite spots near Cache. Dropped some minnows in, nada. Dropped some sardine in and bingo! As soon as it hit the water these guys were going at it. Would have been fun to have the kids there. Non stop until Id had enough baiting hooks. Nothing of real size though. Moved back down river to get a little sturgeon fishing in for the day. Still very windy in the evening hours with no sturgeon to be had. Back up river near the Cache to spend the night on the water. Up at early AM and back to the "spot". Dropped some minnows in and waited. Didnt wait long though! Ill bet I hooked and released at least 20 fish in my stay there Saturday. The minnows garnered some nice 8-10lb fish and the sardines were guaranteed action although nothing very large. Fun nonetheless using light action gear. It is funny though, the bite comes on quick and goes away the same. Makes it easy to do business and head home. More fish in the freezer!
