What else can be had this time of year. I'm at least planning to bring my surf rods to cast the snares. What else should I bring? Are there any perch or rockfish that can be caught there. I'm planning on squid for crab bait. What other bait should I bring with me?

The surf was kind of rough which may have put them off the bite.
Here's hoping it picks up!

Hey guys,

So my girlfriend and I would like to get into some pier fishing, but the only gear that I have is for freshwater bass fishing on the Delta.

I've got a pretty good idea on the type of line, rigs, and baits to use...but I just don't know what type of rod/reel I'll need to get.

Tips?

Probably looking to spend around $150 per combo.

Thanks in advance guys!

Hello!

I am a masters student at Scripps Institution of Oceanography studying leopard shark genetics. I am planning on taking a trip up to Morro Bay this summer to collect tissue samples, and I could really use some advice from the experts on this forum :)

Does anybody have any experience fishing for leopards in the area? Any advice on the best place to fish for them? I won't have access to a boat, and I was planning on fishing from the pier or shore. I am hoping to take fin clips from ~20 sharks, do you think I could catch that many in 5 days?

Please contact me here or send me an email at am.barker8@gmail.com if you have any info to share!

Thank you!!

Hi guys,

I'm a novice freshwater fisherman who is interested in surf and jetty fishing in the Bay Area. I'm a man of limited time (have a new baby, new job, wife...) but would like to wet the lines in some salt water this year when I find time.

To cut to the chase, whats the best way to learn to surf/jetty fish? I don't know anyone (who has experience) to fish with and learn unfortunately. I could spend all my time reading and researching, but that sounds like a lot of trial and error (and no fish) for me at this point.

Wife would let me fish if I brought something home (she loves saltwater fish).

I don't have any saltwater gear (yet), but am looking to buy as soon as I can learn.

Appreciate any advice and discussion.

Thanks

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is collaborating with angling groups to collect data on recreational fishermen's interactions with sharks. Recreational angling for sharks is becoming a popular leisure activity worldwide. Sharks are also landed as bycatch when recreational anglers target other fish species. Given the important role sharks play in marine ecosystems, developing a better understanding of when recreational anglers encounter sharks and how they handle sharks once landed is important for their conservation and management. Please consider taking this short survey that begins to compile angler-based information regarding sharks.
Contact information for the researchers is available in the survey and we are happy to answer any questions.

It was a really low tide though, but that's when I seem to do the best in Bodega. Anyone eel Fort baker and have any tips for me? Or would want to go give me some pointers some day? I was using squid and a couple different types of poke pole/eel catching things w/ no luck. Does it get pretty fished out?
