Re: Camping at Indian Springs, Donner, CA... where to fish?

Your little guy on the bottom is a Pikeminnow, I believe.

William B Pond near the park off Fair Oaks/Arden, or coming in from the AR side? I've never caught anything out of there... I've read old reports of hawgs in there 20 years ago though.

btw - pretty little browns, thanks for the report

Thanks Denny1969. Unfortunately, I didn't see your reply until I got back.

I never made it up to Truckee to fish. We ate at Burger Me for our last meal in the area. I was only able to fish the river from Indian Springs up to about Kingvale. Also tried Fordyce Lake and Lake Sterling. No luck at the big watering holes but caught a lot of small 5-7" browns in the small creeks in between. Fish are easy spooked but there are so many of them in the small isolated creeks.

    Lake Sterling at 7am

On the way back, my friend and I stopped over at the William B. Pond Rec Area. This is a really nice area but I'm sure it gets a lot of pressure. Didn't expect much, so I just casted my line out... and casted some more. A few nibbles, missed two big bites, and only landed this little bugger.

What kind of fish is he?

All those bug patterns should produce. But the trout have really been gorging themselves on hoppers lately. I would be fishing a hopper/dropper rig near the bank.

As for locations, the river on both sides of the border is doing well. For quick and easy access, fish the Glenshire and Hirschdale sections.

Edit: For more intel, stop by the hardware store in Truckee.

Camping at Indian Springs, Donner, CA... where to fish?

Hi all, I'm heading to Indian Springs Campground in Donner, CA tomorrow until Friday. My friend and I plan to do lot of rock climbing in the area during the day, but I'd like to sneak away in the early morning and late evenings to do some flyfishing.

Anyone have some recommendations on where to go and what flies to use?
I picked up some hoppers, PMDs, an ants earlier today.

    Thanks everyone.

    - Kevin
