    I have caught stripers on clams, they dont last long on the hook when the adolescent stripers are in thick. Too much work to get them out of the shell and on the hook too...

    The 20+lb. striper I caught off Noriega section of Ocean Beach last August ate 38 small-medium size anchovies, 1 grass shrimp, and my Mickey jig. One voracious eater, first time I hooked up on a striper that hungry. This one turned out to be a male striper, and was probably gorging on those chovies (it was fat), preparing to go back up the bays and estuaries.

    Mr-T 1st Surf Striper had a belly full of Chovies. fish probably weighed 5lbs with empty belly. 11lbs with belly full of chovies ;D ;D

    I had a fish last year that i kept and the thing had two 10" sand dabs and a 12" croaker in its gullet. It also smacked my 3oz popper.

    Dimpala caught one in the surf this year and when he opened it's mouth you could see it was full of chovies..and it still took wood, 3 oz. popper.
