I actually went to the Delta Mendota Canal for the first time on Saturday. I caught 1 keeper striper and a catfish. The Current is extremely fast, i only had a 1 oz weight but it worked still. i just walked down about 10 yrds from the gate and fished. The rig i used was the typical sliding sinker rig

Delta-Mendota Canal and the California Aqueduct Fishing Info

Does anyone know of a good spot to fish in the Delta-Mendota Canal and the California Aqueduct area? Is it still legal to fish there? If so what is a good access area and how do you get there? What baits are best and what types fish are in there? I know the water runs very very fast as I fished somewhere in that canal 30 or so years ago. What weights are best and rigs? Thanks for any help. I know it goes several hundred miles so I am thinking the Central Calif area near Tracy, etc.
