Nice fishing out there and congrats on catching stripers on plugs. I'm sure there will be plenty more to come.

Nice!!! Kinda good to hear fish are still boiling out there. But man seems like the big ones aren't there yet. But still a blast hooking up those small ones.

1st stripers on a plug!
So my wife, son and I decided to go out and see if we could find some catfish Sunday. We just went out to 8 mile rd (near Stockton) stopped at the 1st bridge and threw out some chicken liver. After a while we start noticing a lot of fish jumping/breaking around us. My 10 yr old son says he wants to throw a lure (he so wants to be like Bill Dance...but who doesn't lol) I instruct him to pick out a topwater and he grabs a popper and I tie it on. 5 min later he hooks a little 8 in large mouth. I'm thinking I'm missing out on some fun so I tie one on my pole, too. We start walking down the levee, stopping every little bit and throwing. Then we see a bunch of action about 50 ft out. I cast toward it, twitch the popper a couple times and BAM fish on. It comes unbuttoned and Zach casts out and he hooks up and it comes loose. I throw again and this time make sure I set it good. I land a small stripe about 14 in. We keep throwing out there and end up with about 12 small stripes, no keepers but damn that was fun! Zach ends up with another small lgmouth under the bridge later and we miss a couple bigger ones, my wife catches a small stripe on the liver, too. All together one heck of a good time. Even though they were small, those were a blast on topwaters! Now I see why it's so addicting and I'm hooked too. Thanks to all the input from the people on here who give reports and help to those of us with less experience. I believe that's what helped me to make the right call and have a great time out there yesterday.
