AR Striper Fishing

i just moved up to sacramento. gonna have to try to get out there and find some places to fish.

My latest theory....I know you are all dying to hear it.....is that when the striper scene in the AR is less than smoking hot, like now, you really need a boat to locate them. I am strictly a bank fisherman, and in the 1-2 hour "golden time" at dusk and dawn you really cannot cover more than a couple holes....and that is assuming you can even reach them.

I caught 5 or 6 on my first trip this year in June, including a nice 8 pounder, and thought I was in for a smokin' season. But since then, nothing.

My problem is that I have to drive for 45 minutes each way for 1-2 hours of fishing. Consequently I feel my motivation waning.... I really wish the AR was open to night fishing....

Don't feel too bad Owlman...I live 5 minutes from the river and I've been out at least a half dozen times for the big goose egg.

I may get back out there Friday. Still deciding. My last 10 AR trips have been skunk fest!

ha, yeah a repetative skunking will take the wind out of your sail. that was the story of my summer last year. this year im 1 for 1, so i can handle a few more skunks before getting too discouraged.

i am still going to try to get out on friday, i should know for sure tomorrow. i will let you know.

finally got out last night........ for nada. i was trying some new lures and a new reel, and and to scout my old spots.

only was able to fish for an hour. its been way too long since i got out, apparently 2 jobs and a baby will do that. but nonetheless, it felt good being out again and even the jerk rafters that were talking smack to me didnt really make me that mad. i was surprised that they were still out that late, but then again it is summer time. going to start hitting the river at least once a week from here on out!

overall it was a good outing, dialed in my reel, refreshed my casting skills and even seen some steelies or salmon. didnt get a really good look at them, but they were all silver.

Are they the red crawdads or the green that come from American Riv?

These were red and they sucked actually. I can keep alive for weeks but these died within days. I'll try catching my own

Bought at elkhorn bait. I think I will start catching them though.
