Re: Poaching Crab Pots
I worked for dfg, offshore patrol for 15 years... Poaching is a real problem,I worked in the commercial arena, offshore Ft Bragg to Morro Bay.The horror is the out of state permit holders poaching the hell out of our resource while the (man) squibble about price... I have been in situations where people are caught red -handed stealing, Wardens have no mercy in those cases, and in many ways the suspect is outed.. I think the sporty take is only the tip of the harpoon.

My buddy used to tie wrap the doors closed on his pots so that he could tell whether or not he had been hit. It doesn't stop someone from cutting the tie wrap and stealing the crabs, but at least he would know that someone else was in there.

Poaching Crab Pots
The Marin IJ ran an article today stating that it was NOT illeagal to poach crabs from sport traps. *Did anyone else see the article? *I couldn't believe it!!!
http://www.marinij.com/fastsearchresults/ci_3230465
It does state the Fish & Game may consider changing this rule in August. *Isn't there something that we, as sport trap owners, can do to make our voices heard?
