Re: Is Shiner Perch an eatable/edible fish?
I took all the carcass from a rock fishing trip and gave it to a friend at work who wanted them, the next day she walked in with a big pot of fish head soup and man was that ever great.

Re: Is Shiner Perch an eatable/edible fish?
My wife is Philipina. We shop at the asian supermarkets a lot, and believe me, some people will eat anything. I have seen every kind of sea creature for sale. A good 20% of the species I would refer to as bait. I like most seafood, but I a have to draw the line somewhere. My inlaws are the nicest people on the face of the earth, but I will never understand why they drive all the way from Lincoln to South Sac just to buy talapia... :P They prefer deep fried talapia over lobster! I give them salmon and they just want the heads for soup. My father was born in the Philipenes. I used to catch crawdads and bluegill in the creeks by my house in Roseville, and my dad would insist that I bring all of it home to cook and eat. I guess it is just a matter of what you grow up eating.

Is Shiner Perch an eatable/edible fish?
I was at a Japanese supermarket the other day just window shopping the fish they sell. Some of the fish are as small as the shiner perch I use for bait (4-5"
. Which makes me wonder, do people eat shiner perch?
If I scale a shiner, rub on some salt on it and barbecue it, will it taste OK?
