    Re: LATE season halibut

ps: only marked a couple small bait balls in less than 15ft, a lot right at the 20ft drop off of the flats, seemed to be big bait, a few seals working them, maybe herring? Schoolie stripers?

yup, trolled chart 0/1 dodger and double chart hoochie for most of the day on the flats, lost a 15-20lber in the net, trying land a big fish solo with those dodger dropper rigs is a PITA, ended up snagging the front hook in the net as he slid out and he popped off, damn, I have a smoked halibut recipe I want to try!

It was so calm I tried a 0/2 silver dodger, chart hoochie to frozen sardine, had two rakes, no idea how they both missed the trap hook, one of those days!

Shiner perch work too, I use those over in Paradise when I am kayak fishing, and buy them at Loch Lomond.

What are you using for live bait? Sardines?

    Would live mudsuckers work?
Thinking about trying something different tomorrow and thought about doing a little bit of drifting at the Berkeley Flats....thanks!

    Re: LATE season halibut

    Josh,
Halibut are still biting very well at all the usual spots in the bay. The key is finding live bait to drift. I've been out the past two Tuesdays for a half day and landed 5 hali's each time to 14lbs. (most of the action is between 16ft-11ft)
    Goodluck!

    LATE season halibut

    Hi All,

I know the bite is way down, but I'd still like to try to target halibut, any recommendations on targeting them in the SF Bay?* Good areas to try?* Seems the charters are picking a few up in San Pablo Bay.

    Thanks!

    Josh
