Great day on the killing grounds! We stopped at 9 fish at 1:00. FIlled the 17' Arima and had no more room. It was the alignment we have been waiting for. Wish my boat had more room. WIth friends asking for fresh tuna.....I'm already running low. 32 fish should last a while.

Monterey Tuna 8/16/12 Wide Open (pics)

Slayed them about 25 miles SW of Monterey. Launched at 4 am and made it out to the tuna grounds about a half hour before light with jumpers right next to the boat. Within 15 minutes all 6 rods were hooked on the troll and the 3 of us got 5 in. We only had about a 20 minute lull between bites one time. All day we got doubles and triples. Fish were 20-35. By the time we washed the blood off the deck more fish hit the deck. I had to gaff 2 of my own fish. All fish came on Zuccini Zukers and a green and yellow. 2 fish on a fish trap and could have got more if we had time to put it out since 4 times after we got bit and started trolling again I got hit as soon as I let out and put the rod in the holder. We stopped at 32 fish, which was at 10:30 am, since all fish holds were filled on the 22 ft Davis Cortez and we had no more ice to top them off. Also, 32 was probably enough for the 3 of us since they filleted out to be over 300 pounds of premium firm fillets.
