    Re: Height of stupidity

you know the owner of the boat had to have known he had the mussels, but he'd still risk our prize lake to have some fun for him self...how rude. lots of waisted gas on that trip. good job inspectors.

All I can do is to keep it clean and dry. I'm sure the rules will get worse as we go along. Once there is a foot in the door the elephant will walk through.....Jetspray

Yep, fished Tahoe a few weeks ago, cleaned up the boat, made sure the bilge was dry as a bone. Got to the Lake Forrest ramp at 0600 (one hour later than planned) and no one there to inspect the boat.
They were there when we left, but the thought in my head kept comming back all day "what's the point, if anyone can launch early and not get inspected!!"

This was my Tahoe experience as posted on another board!!

    Re: Height of stupidity

In 2007 I took a boat to Cave Rock. It sat most of the time in the water and even got swamped by the waves(it was only 15 ft alum). Anyways that was the start of this inspection prosess. But I came from Cal. to NV and no insp. untill we came home and stopped at Meyers and were good to go when I said the boat was swamped and may still have water in it. Then they did a real inspection and we where clean but what about those that came up from where ever that had dry boats with Cal. plates and bypassed those St. insp. stops ?

We just got rejected at Del Valle this past weekend. Boat hadn't been out in about 2 months, but my friend’s dad decided to wash it right before we took it out. He dried out everything except one of the live wells which was full of dirty water at that point. Boat was quarantined for 5 days, no mussel inspection lakes until this weekend.

That is why they are doing inspections at Tahoe and other sites in California-prevent infestation. It was found during the usual inspection prior to launch, so the system worked this time and it was known that the boat was from Mead, so the inspector knew to be thorough because it is known the mussels are in Mead.
From the news reports on the incident, it sounded like the boat was probably cleaned but a small area was somehow missed.

Yup! That water is clear enough already.
I tell ya, if those mussels did get in there, all the people with their "keep Tahoe blue" bumper stickers might as well rip those stickers off because that water would be clearer than it has probably ever been.
Don't want to see it cleaned up that way though.
Good job whom ever caught that boat before going in the water.

    Height of stupidity

I heard from another board that a 32 foot cabin boat was stopped from Launching at Tahoe because the hull was covered with zebra and quagga mussels and it wasn't clean or dry. Right from Lake Mead.*No doubt the owners were Martians from outer space
