Yea that is great! Most other lakes are empty why not Capels too. That does not make alot of sense. Hopefully we get a good rainy season this year.

In the winter and early spring of last year the water was completely away from the dam at Silver and nearly that at Caples. I wish they wouldn't do this but there may be an interesting fishing opportunity at Caples in the fall. Consentrated and hungry fish.

It may take several years for the lake to fill completely again!![]()
Silver is not very deep at all in the wintertime... Caples is NEVER going to be less than 30' deep, I don't think. Finally, I've only seen ONE year in the last 10 that it didn't fill completely from spring runnoff.Ever seen macs survive in a pond? Neither have I. The fish are going to be having a real hard time when the lake is well below 30 feet deep at its deepest. Twin Lakes will return (that's what it used to be called before the dams) and the fishing, boat launching and recreation will be a thing of the past. It may take several years for the lake to fill completely again!
WAAH! THE SKY IS FALLING! WAAH!
BTW- some macs in Silver survived rotenone poisoning of the lake. I'm sure this will impact the fishery for a couple years, but that's about it.
If anyone wants to follow this, the following IP address is EID's water flow web site: http://207.212.71.197/. It looks like they have started drawing down Caples. Outflow increased overnight from around 30 cfs to 80 cfs. Silver Lake is still at 4 cfs, which looks like zero, if you walk down the Silver Fork from the dam.
If that's the case, the water levels on Caples Creek and the Silver Fork of the American River will increase. At worst, they will get blown out.

i will report sunday. will be trolling sat & sun there. any idea of how many feet/day?
We can expect very low water levels starting soon at Caples Lake. EID is going to perform some repairs to the outlet gates and begin construction of the new launch ramp and must lower the water to it's lowest levels in over 30 years. They start seriously lowering the lake this week and will continue the drawdown for several months. Silver Lake has similar issues as well.
