It is too low for anything that isn't free drifting and powered by oars or maybe a jet pump. You can get away with a small boat and prop if its above about 3500 cfs. I did it last fall in my 12' jon boat. I did hit a rock here and there, but I was going less than 5MPH so it wasn't too bad.

Thanks, everyone. You have sufficiently scared me out of trying what I was asking about.

I also a have a small two seater 12' Pelican with a 7.5 hp Honda. Can't fit as many folks, but maybe I'll give that one a shot.

    What Delta said.

You have a little aluminum boat you can drag it out of trouble.

19' I/O you get in trouble and it will be a monument.

No way I'd put a 19' I/O on the American that far up river. Maybe the lower end within 3-4 miles of Disco but only if you are familiar with the area. A small prop, 12' boat with an outboard, can work up there but even then you have to be careful. With your boat if your looking for shad launch at disco and fish between there and I street.

Upper American - Prop boat access for shad??

    Hi all.

Would like to put in my inboard / outboard somewhere in the American (Sunrise, Watt, Sailor Bar?) and fish for shad. Don't need to go far, but just want to put in at a reasonable spot and be able to move around a bit in the river to anchor up and do some shad fishing. I have a 19 ft I/O. I don't want to drag bottom, of course.

    Suggestions anyone?

    Thanks very much.
