Tahoe Koke action 08/10
Took a trip up to Tahoe this past weekend. Alie had not been yet so it was time to go and show her some more of the beauty that California has to offer. Spent a good portion of Friday showing her around the basin area and the lake. Amazing day for it, beautiful weather and beautiful country.
Saturday morning we get up and head to the lake. Work connections got her a trip with Tahoe Sportfishing so thats who we were going out with. My mom and her husband meet us there as well and 0600 we hit the water on the Dory L with Captain Brian.
He gives us the schpeel and we start fishing. Slow start but we started getting into a school and have several in the boat quick. Kokanee running 16-20 inches were the average for the day, with two fish in the 7-10 inch range. The pictures are on my moms camera but we had a great day, if a little slow on the action. Ended the day at 11 with 17 fish in the boat for 6 people fishing. Reports of a solid 4 + lb koke lost at the boat nearby had teh captain talking about the size of the kokes up there this season.
All in all, a great day to be on the water, even if slow fishing. Beautiful lake, beautiful fish, family, new friends, and a lot of fun.
Filleted the fish at home and had some wonderful teriyaki grilled koke off the grill last night. Tastey stuff! first time for any of us catching or eating kokanee but I can definatly understand the popularity of this fish now! MMMM MMMM good!
