Re: New Melones 7/30 - Late Report

Good report QG, thanks for the info. If we ever get a cooler day and I can find someone to help launch and recover, I'll get back down there and look for some of those nice kokes myself.

    New Melones 7/30

Launched at Glory Hole at 5:45 and headed to the south end. Dropped lines just after 6:00 and had the first koke in the box in about 10 minutes. Found a large school just north of the floating bathroom - put 6 in the box (a few LDRs and a few misses included) by 7:30 am, and then it got slow for us. Spent the next couple of hours searching for the schools and put 3 more in the box before pulling up the lines at 11:00 and heading out. We probably had 20-25 total take downs.

Pink Apex and Pink Uncle Larry's did most of the damage with a homemade glow spinner getting a few also. All lures were tipped with shoepeg corn w/Pro Cure Kokanee Special scent. Watermelon dodgers and chrome/green dodger were the only ones we used. Fish were at 45-55 feet in the morning and down to 70-75 by 11:00.

Nice size fish - the biggest was just over 17" and weighed 2.15 lbs. About half had the hook jaw developing and they fought HARD! Saw Monte Smith in the area and he was putting fish in the boat all morning. Reports on the radio of smaller (but plentiful) fish off of Rose Island but we never made it that far north.

    Fish On!
