Re: Kokanee Rookie
What i've found to be the hot ticket for being a Koke' rookie is to show up at Bullards Bar and troll off a jet ski, and with this being a great group of guys here someone will just snatch you up throw you in there boat and put you on some fish ;D .
Hey TrackerT I sent you a PM wanted to get your thoughts on your boat and how you like it. Been working another job so that I can buy a boat here in the near future.
Good luck to all on your fishing excursions and tight lines

Re: Kokanee Rookie
Mako-
I'm going up tomorrow. No VHF yet, but I'll be in a 17' patio boat with the stars. Come say HELLO.

Re: Kokanee Rookie
I'm camping at Garden pt, so I'll try some of my spots there. If there are too many boats at the Dam I don't like to really fish it unless I'm not getting the 5-10 fish/hr at other spots. I'll tune to channel 69.

Re: Kokanee Rookie
Mako - I'll be there Saturday as usual, but I might make a run to the very top of the lake first. If things don't work out, I'll come back to the dam. Channel 69.

From one Rookie Kokanee Fisherman to another-
If I were going for the shakedown cruise it would be Bullards. In July I've fished UVR twice and Bullards once. UVR is a little cooler this time of year but as Kokaneemart said the fish seem to be a little "fickle" at UVR.
The bite at Bullards has been pretty consistent, it's a beautiful lake and with Gary's tips you have a pretty good chance at success.
Clear out your Calendar through the middle of October! Once you start you won't be able to stop!
Good Luck !!

Re: Kokanee Rookie
I agree except I prefer a tight bow in my rod. I can see the hookup immediately and there will be less slack in the line when hooked up. Regular shoepeg works great !

Re: Kokanee Rookie
Troutcoach,
Good input from Gary as he is the Man at Bullards. I like to go out @ 25 ft. from my boat at 40-50 ft. deep unless I am running my electric trolling motor (which is 90 % of the time) and then I'll just go @ 10-15 ft back since there isn't any motor noise. At the 45 - 50 ft. depth you should be fine in closer. One thing to remember is the shoepeg corn. It helps to be scented but be sure to bring some or it might be a long morning. With the cooler temps, I think Bullards is where I'd go as the fish in UVR are a bit fickle. Good luck and please post how you do.

Re: Kokanee Rookie
For Bullard's: I use 8# test. I send the lure and dodger about 10 feet past the where I can't see it as I am letting out line, then send it down. 45 feet has been good at the dam. Critical is very loose drag (only enough to hold a slight bow in the rod when in the downrigger) and a very limber rod. I do not like to bend the rod very far when in the downrigger. Green colors have been the most reliable, but some bit of copper has been working too. Fish early. Expect a good run between 6:30 and 7:45 then a significant taper off, with it picking back up about 9:15. Good luck.

Kokanee Rookie
I'm taking a buddy of mine to either UVR or Bullards on Friday and it will be our first time Kokanee fishing. So I have a couple of questions. What lb. test line should I use for a leader? Also, I'll be using a downrigger, so if I'm down 45'.......how far out do I need to let the line drag behind the boat? Thanks in advance. 8)
