Re: Stacking lines in the downrigger

Another trick maybe to use Macks Double D Dodgers....they have "offsets" that would allow you to run one to pull port side while the other pulls starboard., thereby giving you separation laterally. Would be a good solution for a 1 down rigger stack system. Also keeps baits from being directly under the boat.

Re: Stacking lines in the downrigger

I stack for Kokanee when fishing from my kayak. I have had a couple tangles over the last few years, but very seldom. I send the bottom line down on the ball with set back depending on depth of course. The second line goes down on a Shuttle Hawk. It is usually a flawless operation. I think one advantage from the kayak is how stealthy it is. I believe fully that my setbacks don't need to be as far as they do from a power boat. It was a little tricky figuring out how to make it happen from a kayak, but once I did it is really no issue.

Re: Stacking lines in the downrigger

In my 12' I stacked a lot when there were 2 and the bite wasn't cRAZY. Placement was always important to prevent tangles. I found the that bottom presentation always needed the back rod holder and upper presentation the front. When popping the clip bring the rod tip to the back or turn into that side.Hope that's helpful.

I've got the wrong Dodgers. I did not know that Macks had multiple holes to create a spread . Thanks for that!

Re: Stacking lines in the downrigger

If running an atrractor a Macks double d dodger on the bottom, rigged on the outside (left) hole will track away from the boat. If that rod is behind the rod and pointed 90* away from stern it will almost never foul the top line on release
