*Note on Spud Point Marina, the pier is closed for the unforeseeable future. The rails are rusty and is being used as an unsafe condition so they have the pier blocked off.

Now through August is the best time of the year for surf perch. They're a blast on light tackle. I've had success at Bodega Dunes beach by Salmon Creek as well as Doran beach. For bait, Berkley Gulp sandworms in camo color work so good, I don't use anything else.

    +1 for Lawson's Landing pier
+1 for Spud Point Marina pier (breakwater)
+1 for jumping on a party boat for salmon. Rockfish/Lingcod trips are also an option now.

All of these options are very accessable. Side note on Spud Point...a little chum goes a long way for bringing up smelt that are usually in the area this time of year. They can provide steady action if you can get them to hang around and are fun to catch on ultra ultra light tackle. There's also two restaurants across the street that have some pretty good eats.

You can try Spud Point Marina pier. Free to park, accessible, though bring cover from the sun and wind. Can catch baitfish and dungeness crab there. I've had more success on the jetty, but I don't think your father can make it. I'd have one pole with squid on it on a hi-lo set up and another jigging a sabiki. Also get crab snare and try your luck too.

If your father can cast, you can try the surf at Doran Beach. I've caught surf perch there.

Go to Lawson’s Landing and throw out some squid for some sharks.

**newbie** getting into fishing, looking for advice or a fishing buddy Sonoma Coast

    Hey guys,

So I have recently started fishing again after about 20 years. I have been trying various spots in bodega bay and was wondering if anyone knows of any places I can take my aging father for a fun day at the coast since the last 4 weekends we have struck out. PS. why are there like no peirs to fish from in the area?
