    After you'd smoked the salmon for a couple of hours you might have wanted to can it. Too late now but for future reference canning is a great way to preserve your catch. Hope your dog is OK. RAY

    Really, this is serious stuff! 150 degrees may not be enough. WATCH THEM CLOSE and fully cook any pieces the dogs get!

    Great thread. I always have given fully cooked salmon bits to my dogs. Will be extra careful though.

    Never feed dogs raw or half cooked salmon. Fully cooked is fine.And yes gender makes a difference. I only keep chrome bucks. Hens meat deteriorates rapidly as the body consumes itself in the development of their eggs. Unless I need eggs, I let all hens caught in freshwater go.

    An internal temperature of 145 degrees will kill the flukes.

    Your dogs should be ok. I don’t know what temp the parasite is killed but sounds like the fish was pretty well cooked. SPD is not actually poisoning it is caused by a parasite in and on the fish. Cooking kills it. Only affects dogs, not humans or other critters.
