    Kokanee-Chinook Hybrid at Lake Berryessa?

We got this fish on Sunday at Berryessa. I've never seen a kokanee with spots like this. It had the shape and gill rakers like a kokanee, but the spots and the purple coloration was more like a chinook (or king).

Probably just a kokanee with pronounced spots, but I thought it was interesting enough to share.

    Here are the pics...

That is interesting. What color was the mouth? I would think it might pick up some black in the mouth if it were a king cross. That would be kinda cool.
Taking off and flying is easy, it's the landings that will kill you.

Oh Yeah!...Salmon!...Everything else is just practice.

I have a bunch of old fish pics from melones with spotted kokes like that. Some have em, most don't.

All the inland chinook are triploided so they cannot spawn. They also don't have the necessary spawning habitat around Berryessa.

    My vote it's a chinook

    Jack,

We've caught lots of kokes with spots.
First one ever, was at Pardee.
