    Re: Sea Lions

Saw one last weekend in the Moke.

Agree with Shot-Gun: best indicator is fish on ice, followed by fish on the line. Fish on the sonar help's keeps up one's enthusiasm.
Your buddy or someone around you catching fish is more often like salt on a wound: they can catch and you can't

Fisher of men first, fisher of fish second.

I agree. I've always believed that the sea lions are the best indicators and have done better when there are one or two in the area I'm fishing.

I've seen them up and down the river, not as many sea lions as in past years for sure. I haven't seen one tearing a Salmon apart yet or heard of a sea lion stealing a Salmon off someone hook like I usually do. I started to think that meant something, not seeing as many sea lions, but we're being told 100k more Salmon this year but to me it's been one of the worst or slowest years for Salmon in some time. They maybe should of subtracted that number?.. Benecia State park is really slow too this year. Hopefully with the cooler weather coming up it will pick up. Oct might be the big Salmon run month this year, who knows. Some still being caught outside the Gate which could mean there's still a good month or those are late fall run fish or both. Lot more skunk than sea lions.

I just consider it as some sort of indicator. However I've caught salmon when these creatures are present as well as when not but I do know that if the critters are around so are the salmon.

    Re: Sea Lions

Trolled south from Discovery past the American river and saw one about 8 am yesterday. Zero fish seen or caught. Cleaned lines every 15 minutes. Next week I am hoping they will start appearing.
