the bait shop you guys are talking about is called leonards bait and tackle. joel and deb own the place. call them, they are good people. they have there own shrimp boat and are able to get some shrimp when every one else has a hard time. the last time i was there they opened at 6:30 and closed at 4:00.
if you are heading that way for sure send me an email or i.m. or call me if you still have my number and i will give you some of my inside info.

    Thanks Jason,
I usually launch at Vallejo but as you know it makes for a long run in the dark if you fish late. Thought Id check it out for some of those late big tides that are coming up. I heard allot of the locals did good out there this week.

Just got back from SPB on Tuesday. We launched from Blacks Marina which is directly under HWY. 37. We loaded back up during low tide and it wasnt really a problem. As posted earlier stay BETWEEN the red and green bouy markers!!! The channel is there for a reason.

    Oh yea...

2 stripers (legal but released )
    1 bullhead
    1 pink funny looking fish
    0 sturgeon

Fished pump house area and when the weather got real nasty we moved over near china camp.

Launch @ Petaluma river under HWY37 bridge to for quickest access to triangle. The channel is a dredged navigable waterway used by tugs pushing barges of gravel up to Petaluma, so stay between the Green & Red channel markers you can go at any tide, the only issue may be launching/loading at a minus tide, although its doable.

petaluma river... i understand it is really shallow outside the channel?
coming from sac down 37 would it be faster to launch at napa or petaluma to fish "sturgeon triangle" looks like petaluma would be faster but sometimes maps can be deceiving... is there ever a time(tide) when you could not access petaluma river from san pablo? does it ever get that shallow? i would hate to drive there and not be able to launch/ get out of the channel... or worse not be able to come in!

What launch are you asking about? As far as nite goes, Tank is right, you have to be above the bridges, Carquinez, Hwy37 over Napa River, Hwy37 over Sonoma Creek. You can launch at the free City of Vallejo launch and fish Napa river @ nite, or launch @ Petaluma river, under Hwy 37 and fish there.

I'm not that familiar with the launch, but you can not night fish from a boat anywhere in the bay west of the Carquinez Bridge.
