On a tough day way out there where your fishing at; time to pull out the calamari squid cut into strips with a smelt tied onto it from the asian supermarket. I got that from self experienced when me and a few of my family members rent a boat out onto Benicia. Couldn't get them to stick onto ghost and grass(not many knew about eels back then). But for some reason they hit on squid and smelt that we plan to use for another species.

Drives you nuts huh?...see that's the difference between me and a sturgeon. If I go cruising past one of my favorite snacks Ill have at it whether I'm feeding or not. I heard somewhere that when they get stacked like that and arent biting, it's a good idea to wait a bit and follow them downstream. Fish gotta eat some time.

    Thanks for the report,

    El Skunko on Monday

Fished Benicia and up on Monday. Launched at 10am and fishing by 1030. On the way out looking for marks on the ff I thought we hit the mother load, fishfinder lit up like the 4th of July. We anchored and set out 5 rods, put out Eel, ghost,Mud, pile and roe and sat there and watched this onslaught of dbacks swim under the boat on the ff. A few times they were so thick they were getting caught up on our lines swimming by but could not entice any of them bite. Fished until 9pm for 1 baby d-back. Very frustrating........... But great day on the water anyway..............
