I'm gonna blame it on the date. Tomorrow, 10/15 is officially the begining of the fall fishing season and the fish were still on vacation today.

I'm also putting this in the trout board because, well, I think these steelhead are more like trout and we fish them like trout not steelhead.

Surface temp 67.5 F
Location: No-Ski Bouy's, Dry Creek Arm to the dam staying on the north side.
Water Clarity 5ft
Weeds - Floaters down between 60-80 feet.
Bait Balls - a couple on the surface but nothing feeding on them except birds and they weren't very active.

Downscan sonar showed the fish holding at about 100' or just above the underwater tree tops. I tried bouncing the downrigger ball through the tops of them but got tired of that really quick so I setup for 40' and then worked around them. They must have let some water out of the lake last week because that old 200' tall tree dead center and about 1/4mile east of the bouys is only about 5 feet below the surface right now. I couldn't have put it more center of my boat if I wanted to. I never touched it with either line.

I picked up 3 little dinks just above the bouys going with the wind at 1.8mph using a pink Apex Kokanee Killer and a Silver Apex Kokanee Killer. The fact that pink is now working tells me that what they're feeding on is turning now. That's not good because when they turn the fish start heading back to the streams.

I talked to a couple of guys in the parking lot that said they were schooled up in the bay's just up from the dam. I checked in there and found fish still holding but not very active. I had a couple of bass chase my rigs but they never touched them.

When I left the bouys, I trolled almost straight down the center varying between 100' and 60'. I saw a lot of fish and swear I knocked a few of them on the head but nothing took. I ran at various speeds with a cop car, a F7 flat fish, several different Uncle Larrys and a bare threaded worm but nothing took. They were there but just not interested.

Most of the guys I talked to today were having the same luck so I guess it was just one of those off days.
