Re: Looking for a new Trout stream
As BB pointed out the lower rivers are not the best places to fish, the water is polluted, the rocks are full of slime an who knows what else, once you see the difference in water clarity, smell etc.you will understand. Our lower elevation lakes aren't much better, most of them are fed buy rivers that are dumping grounds for sewage treatment plants,at least it's supposed to be treated,an yes I fish them but don't eat anything from them, even smoked(usually)LOL...Don

Looking for a new Trout stream
Try the stanislaus river on boards crossing rd. in Dorrington up hwy 4. It does get fished alot but if you are willing to hike a bit, you can go upstream from the bridge for miles of quiet fishing. Lots of rainbows and browns in there, most are small in the 8-12" size range, but every now and then you can find a monster brown. I lost a 5+ pounder in there last year. You can also drive past the bridge for about 15 minutes on a dirt road and end up at Beaver Creek that doesnt get fished much. Very beautiful areas in my opinion.

Re: Looking for a new Trout stream
Try the Moke above Electra. From highway 26 to Tiger Creek Reservoir there is a dirt road that runs along the river. The stretch from Tiger Creek Reservoir to Salt Springs is nice also. I never see too many people when I'm up there. There are lots of rainbows and some really nice browns if you can find them. Both roads have been open every time I've been up there, but are subject to being closed. This area has lots of options. If you can'f find the fish in the river, Tiger Creek Reservoir, the regulator, and the forbay all have some nice browns in them.

Re: Looking for a new Trout stream
I would recommend the Silver Fork of the american river. See my two recent reports on the trout board for details. This stream has sections that are about impossible to fly fish, however there are lots of trout biting bait. Plus its a gorgeous area.

Looking for a new Trout stream
well The end of a trout stream season is nearing and already im looking forward to 2013. My goal is too look at new trout streams to fih. I would prefer Bait streams as I`m not a hardware guy. I was looking at la Grange Dam or the stream below it for next year or better yet give a look in the next few weeks with a drive and a Romantic lunch with the wife.

*The Upper Moke on Red Corral Road
*The American river for steel head.
