Re: I'm looking for a new lake for my annual fishing trip
Camanche has everything you need... Some Cottages are right next to the boat ramp, which is right next to the Store/Restaurant... Late Sept / Oct is a great time for some nice Orange Meat, Hold Overs...

Re: I'm looking for a new lake for my annual fishing trip
Eagle Lake for tubing with day trips to Pyramid and Almanor. Stay in Spalding and drive to Wildcat via the USFS road, you end up on the beach. I can set you up with the best float tube guide on the lake. June-July and Oct-Nov are the best times. The fishing is hot, hot, hot, right now.
A day trip to Pyramid or Almanor with the boat will give you a break and increase your takehome count.
As for it being a pain in the rear this year. I went up early in June and it was fine. I got sideswiped by work and haven't gotten back up yet. I agree the lack of usable slips, navigating up to the north basin and having to drive over the summit to launch everymorning did not sound relaxing to me at all but I would have if I could have gotten away.
Val is after me to get up there and fish with her so I probably will in December. That's when we fish from the bank and float tubes and launching or mooring a boat is not a concern. I won't even take mine with me.
Go for a week eat great tasting fish and bring home four that will probably sit in the freezer when you forget they're there anyway. The limit has never been a problem for me.

Amador would cost a fortune. LOL
Pyramid Lake would be your best bet. Big cutts and plenty of them.

Re: I'm looking for a new lake for my annual fishing trip
AMADOR!!! when its on its on. Fish usually swim close to the surface when the water is cold and close to the bank. I fish exclusively from the bank and have done pretty well with limits when the conditions are right. If you can wait for at least 3 days after a rain before going fishing at the lake would be best I think because the rain will have washed food into the lake for trout to feed on and the water will be murky most likely. Also the rain probably changed the water temp a little bit as well, so you will have to change your approach a bit to find the fish. When conditions are good and water clear I cast out about 10'-15' with pink and green power eggs on a sliding sinker rig from the bank with a 4' leader. I also employ a woolybugger behind a water bobber in olive or black in color and retrieve slowly. If your fishing from a boat than your on your own. Good Luck!!

Trout (Big Rainbows) fishing is outstanding in the colder months, so now, before the storms come would be a great time if you can deal with the cold (it's 6000ft or so altitude)

Frenchman's lake is just up the road from Davis and also has some nice rainbows and a few browns.

Re: I'm looking for a new lake for my annual fishing trip
I used to go annually to both Eagle and Almanor, and while I did well at both, I had more action at Almanor. After a few trips camping, the rest of the time was spent at the resort just up the bank from Hamilton Branch, I believe it's called Lassen view resort. We typically went in September/ October and primarily fished from the bank rather than via boat. Plenty of trout and salmon, especially when the creek is flowing well, and the power house turbine is running.

The fish are bigger than Eagle and you can stay by the lake.
