Frenchman's & Eagle Lake Five Days

Annual Eagle Lake trip with 14 other guys. My buddy and I always start a day early and hit Frenchman's on the 20th. On the water at 7:30. Blue sky and three bald eagles overhead. Caught a total of 28 fish. Against our wishes, we had to keep nine that were either bleeders or eye hooked. All 14-16" inch fatties caught on green or red wedding rings w/worms under three colors of leadcore. Trolled the east bank from the cut to the dam and back all day. Great day

Oct. 21 Left Frenchama's at 4:30 and on the water at Eagle Lake around 7:30. Launched at Gallitan (sp) with no problems. Great new ramp. Went straight to Shrimp Island. Immediately C&R a small 1.5 fish and one other take down. Yup, same red wedding ring, 100 ft of leader, with the second color of leadcore to the tip of the rod. Water temp was 62. Then it hit. Blown off the water real early with 2-3 foot white knucle waves.

Oct 22. Snow storm and no fishihing. Left the muddy docks at Spaulding but turned around at the Pelican point. Just not worth it even with the Navionics my buddy uploaded to my i phone. What a life and boat saver!

Oct 23 Cloudy, on and off snow, and windy all day. On the water at 7:30 after dumping the 3 inches of snow off the boat cover. Immediately hooked up and released two at pelican point but continued trolling to Shrimp island. Nothing going on there but one of our other boats had six and swore anything red was catching fish. Broken back Red Dogs was their poison. They did the mono with one color of leadcore tied in the middle with about 80' of leader. Fish caught in 6-12' of water. We made it back to Pelican after exploring pearl needle fish, every red lure in the box, and Jay Flaire flys with no luck. Went back to the red and orange wedding rings with a worm and caught 4 keepers to 2.14.

Oct 24 Nice morning but windy from the start. First boat on the lake at 7:00. Had 8 fish in the boat by 9:30. Released four and kept four all 2.5 -2.11. all on red wedding rings/worms. Trolled at 1.5 between Pelican Point and north until the depth turned to 8' and did it again. In the wind it was like a 90 minute chinese drill. Multiple other take downs.

The weather was crappy so we called the trip a day early. The cold weather really got the fish active and moving. The prior reports of how dangerous this lake is are under stated. Be very carefull out there. Beached my boat twice in the upper portion of the lake trying to get to Spaulding docks. There is definately a small canal to get there but a mapping system is needed to navigate it. The majority of our party was catching limits but the biggest fish at the time we left was only 2.15.

Sorry no pics right now. My Photo Bucket account is messed up and I'm waiting for their reply. Is there another site I can download to? Tight Lines to all.
