to answer your question no melones doesn't kick out a 2-3lb average. most fish are 12-15inches with the occasional holdover over 2lbs. look at all the melones reports and you'll see the real average. i am not knocking the lake at all and if it wasn't so far from me I'd fish that lake a lot! however catching 2 fish that barely make it to 18inches doesn't make that the average. hell i was releasing 18inchers at amador cause they were to small.
now if you want to talk about what lake is managed better that would be hands down melones.

We have not seen a smattering of large fish for a very long time.
it's been said it's the managements fault, not the guys who fish it.
I notice a lot of boaters not catching large fish at Melones, yet all the good advice is to troll next to the shore...2+2 is?
Some people fish to catch fish, some go fishing to to be out. I do both, and a trashed, crowded lake just isn't my thing anymore.

I could go see a movie with the GF and spend $20 on tickets, and another 10 or 15 on drinks and snacks. So there i've spent 30 bucks for a 2hr movie or I can spend a few dollars more for a full day fishing.... Easy decision for me!
You are right on about movies of fishing I cant even go to the movies without spending $40 costs me around $20 to go to amador easy decision . As far as trash at the lake its not as bad as the past heck I have even seen them kick out snaggers this year . One of the fish I caught on sunday had 4 shad in its mouth now if I can just find a shad imitating lure besides a kastmaster I will knock em dead .

Re: Amador 1/13/13
I gave up on Amador a few years back. Use to be one of my favorite lake in the past with some nice 10# trout that will take the rod out off your hand. Its just too pricy and all the trash on the shoreline.
