Yep "care" was a the tip of the day, we "cared" about the cold and stayed in the truck as much as possilbe. The guys down from us had a fire going in one of the barrels the park provides. I did see one folding chair that the fella had wrapped an old sheep's wool car seat cover on. I thought that was a great idea to keep your body warm..........Jetspray

Thanks for coming along Richard and the new Douglas County Topaz sticker will let us do quite a bit of shore fishing. Now we just have to get the F-350 stickered to tow the boat over and fish. I did get my AIS sticker so we can fish Topaz now.......Jetspray

An Icy Topaz on Friday - Pictures

Been seeing reports of a very icy Topaz Lake. Dave, having to get his yearly Topaz pass, and I headed down 395 for a look. Our expectations weren't all that optimostic but we took or fishing stuff anyway. We arrived at 0830 to find a sea of ice. We did notice some trucks parked on the east shore. We entered the county park and went to take a look. On the north east corner there is an underwater outlet for the lake and the small current kept this area free of ice. Why not give it a try? We fished in this shallow area for 3 hours without a fish. We did see one small planters caught by another fisherman. There were a couple of fisherman who launched a small boat off the shore. When we left we saw a couple of yaks that launched as well. The temp when we arrived there was in the low 20s. According to others fishing there the clear area on the east side has been shrinking. If the temps remain cold and the winds lite then it might freeze as well. Dave got his pass so we will be back as soon as the ice age ends. Thanks for the trip Dave. As usual Topaz in the winter was beautiful.
