    Amador 1/18/13 + Folbe Jr!

    Wagon
Master and I had a fishing contest against each other today at Amador.
“Blast off” was at 7 am. We fished until about 1 pm. I took the
overall weight. He took the biggest fish at 4.2 oz. It was one of
those days where we had a lot of strikes, but the fish were not
committing. We got to get rid of this long lasting frost!

Here are the details of my trip:
Fish Landed: 7 (smaller than average – 17” to 19”). One fish came back 8 times
before hooking up! That was a record breaker for me.
    LDR: 4
    SDR: 0
    Strikes: 12
Lure: 3” Berkley White Grub w/Pink egg by far did the best. A few on
    whitish spoon. Nothing on Rapalas.
Depth: 1’ to 2’ entire time (tried 4’ and 6’ with nothing)
    Speed: 1.5 mph
    Set back: 140 feet
    Water Temp: 49
    Water Clarity: Clear

Bankers did better today. Strikefighter and 2 others pair of fisherman I
know caught their limit of 10 fish.

Over fun day, but I will not be going back to Amador this year. Atavuss
was right. Everyone is flooding to the lake. Lake was a zoo by 10
am. 20+ boats (a crowd like a holiday). Also the overall size of
the fish are smaller this year than years past (Nov 2012 to Jan 2013, they have
been small). They have not planted “bigger overall sized fish” in January
as some thought they might. Sure they have put in a few huge fish.
Fish Sniffer reported 2 trout over 12 lb caught recently. But overall the
fish are the same size as Camanche fish this year. I rather pay less if I
am going to catch the same size of fish.

Now to some good stuff: THE LONG AWAITED QUICK RELEASE TROUT ROD HOLDER
IS HERE! Wagon master told me the brand new smaller Folbe Jr rod holders
were at the Sacramento ISE show. They are sized for trout rods. I
already put them to the test on this trip. In a word, PREFECT – See my
full review w/pics in the Rod, Reel, Tackle and Repair Forum. Here is the
    link:

**Side note: Dept of Fish & Game will now be called Department of Fish and
Wildlife. Wardens will now be called Wildlife Officers. Their
    old webpage
    www.dfg.ca.gov
    will still be active.
