i dont find all of this to be true. i would say 70% of all the lakes i fish from shore require long casts. however i've already described how i rig mine up and it works just fine. i use a 1/4oz egg weight and let it fly.

Re: how to keep powerbait on hook
great point Strikefighter regarding using too much bait! your not trying to run a charity food kitchen and feed the hungry, your trying to hook em! i use as small a ball of dough as will effectively cover a size 8-12 egg hook, and since the single egg hook weighs less than a treble, it should take less to float the hook as well. while not always easy to find, you might consider looking for a more moderate action, softer rod for tossing dough baits, rather than the faster action rods

Second that….
I worry more about not getting the bait off the hook..
To hook fish you need to be able to pull hook out of bait on hookset…..
Don’t use to much bait or you will pull it out of the fish..
My key is let the fish run and count to 5 Mississippi, reel out slack then do a "baby" Babe Ruth hook set…Bam!
It helps to roll bait in a ball then slice line into it then slide bait down over the hook…works for me…Bill

Re: how to keep powerbait on hook
I have some of the firebait, but have not used it much. Didn't notice if it melted off, because the bait theives at Indian Creek Resivour are too quick to let anything go to waste. Usually within about 10 minutes you need to reel up and check

That stuff turns from dough to slime in the water. IDK how I feel about it. It's definitely a bit more of a pain to use. I like the eggs for ease of use. I ended up using 1 foam orange ball and 1 white egg. Bagged a 5lb female rainbow.
No luck with the fire bait. I definitely must be using it wrong. Cal had such good success in his video too.

They claim the newer stuff stays on better!!!Next time ask me Grasshopper!!!

On a serious note, the cotton around the hook suggestion would make sense and gave me a thought. It would be fairly simple to take your bait out before using it, add some kind of fiber and knead it in, it would make it hold much better to your hook, even a single point hook. If a fish steals your bait, well, fish need fiber too don't they? Win win.
That's why I use fiber from cotton vs some kind of synthetic like a sponge. It should pass through or dissolve. You can roll it in as you suggest but it is just a little harder to do because the cotton will decrease in size when you do it.........Jetspray

The turbodough I have is "super sticky" and it is higher in scent content than powerbait.......Jetspray
