Re: Eagle Lake Pictures -
Thanks Steve for all the great info. That was me who was looking for info a day or two back. We're in the very early stages of planning a trip at this point -- we may end up camping at the south end.

I love the lake. I go several times a year and have made a lot of great friends over the 40+ years I've been going.

I heard someone was looking for info about the South End of the lake so I thought I'd post up and bring this back to the top.
There are campgrounds all over the south end but if you're looking for a cabin then you should call Dave Leroy at the number on his website that I listed earlier in this thread. Motels in Susanville are also available.
If you're going up for the opener you should be fine going in and out of Spalding. I just got my slip confirmed and the RV park is saying that they are doing o.k. as far as water is concerned.
The lake was at 5096 ft on Dec 1 which is only down 1/2 foot from the beginning of last season. I had no problems launching at Spaulding last season and I don't anticipate any this season.
There will be some spots to avoid but if you make your first run a slow one and do it during daylight you can pick out your land marks and you won't have any problems in the dark. I usually get up there around noon and get settled in then go launch the boat and make a really slow run through the upper basin to Pelican. That's the tricky part at O Dark thirty. Once I've got the track on my chart plotter I just keep to that same one the whole time I'm up there.
If you stay on the south end you'll be in deep water right away with very few obstacles to worry about. The main basin is deep but as you start to head up you can run into some sticky areas. I use the slow troll and watch for rocks concept until I have it plotted. I do that even when there's more water in the lake because a lot of times the fish will be in on the rocks feeding. My friend Val and I call that tap dancing on the rocks. I don't suggest you try it unless you're really confident in manuevering your boat and definitely do not try it in the wind.
I avoid the opener and other holidays just because I like to fish when the traffic on the lake is not at it's peak. I'll be up there from the June 22nd through June 28th (leaving morning of the 29th).

Crabby - The orange with gold flash and some smaller ones that my friend Val Aubrey tied for me were my goto's all last year.
If anyone is interested in getting up to Eagle Lake, I'll be there from June 22-29 pre-fishing it for the season. I'll be going up several times after that until mid November but those trips will be with clients that I have already booked.
If you need a cabin, call or email Dave Leroy at Heritage Land Co. in Spalding. He's taking reservations now. Heritage Land Company at Eagle Lake California for real estate, vacation rentals and fishing
If you have a motor home or want to camp on the north end and launch at Spaulding then you'll need to go early. It looks like the launching situation could be similar to last year.
The RV park in Spaulding is really clean and well maintained you can book reservations online or call them: Eagle Lake RV Park - Susanville, CA - Relax and Enjoy!
There are a few good guides on the lake and some book on short notice. You can call Val Aubrey she might now who's booking it this year. Keep watching her website: www.eaglelakefishing.net, for updates and info and how the season is shaping up.
FYI, Val say's she doesn't guide anymore. However, she's got the float tubing dialed in and she lives to fish her lake so you just never know.
If anyone needs any more info about what's available at the lake, just PM me. If I don't know, I'll know who to ask. I'll also keep you up to date via reports in the "Members Only" section.

The pictures show how the ice has carved away at the shoreline and pushed the rocks and dirt up into a burm. The webmaster updates these pictures quite often during the winter. If you're an Eagle Lake fan, this is the place to find out the real info about the lake. Go the home page and then "Weather" and you'll find the latest info. Once spring rolls around you'll start finding updates in the other areas.
If you're one of those that was put off by all the bad reports last year, you should have been checking this site. It was, by far, one of the best fishing years in recent history. Not the big slugs like we'd seen in the past but definitely plentyful.
Berrrrrrrr, looks cold up there.I see my buddy is advertizing his Arctic Fox fly's there, good stuff!!!Don
