San Pablo Reservoir Offers Great Trout Fishing – And A Chance To Compete
The first annual Bay Area Trout Anglers Challenge is coming to San Pablo Reservoir on September 21-22, bringing with it more trout fishing fun and excitement than you can ever imagine.
The event, set in one of the premier fisheries of northern California, will offer trout anglers of all ages and skill levels a great opportunity to catch some quality fish and win some outstanding prizes.
Two divisions will be available, both kids and adults, with all anglers being allowed to compete from either the shore or from a boat! Great cash and prizes will be paid out at the end of this two-day event with the top 25 biggest fish in the adult division receiving the opportunity to draw for a 14’ Klamath boat, with motor and trailer!
Pre-event adult division entry fee is just $15, ($20 if paid the day of event), with kids 15 and under receiving FREE entry! (Kids signing up the day of the event are $5).

The San Pablo Reservoir Recreation Area offers many exciting outdoor activities including fishing, boating, picnicking, kayaking and hiking. The reservoir is located off San Pablo Dam Road between Orinda and El Sobrante
The lake is stocked regularly with rainbow trout and channel catfish. Largemouth and spotted bass, crappie, redear sunfish, bluegill and even a sleeper population of white sturgeon are available also. The visitor center offers fishing licenses for sale and a wide array of bait and tackle.
Their friendly and knowledgeable staff are available to assist you with all your freshwater fishing and boating needs. They know the best fishing spots and can help you catch the big one.
The reservoir offers a six lane boat launch facility that can accommodate motor boats and kayak/canoe launching. All boats must be inspected prior to launching. The launch is open 7 days a week.
San Pablo also offers some of the best flat water kayaking and canoeing in the East Bay. They offer rentals of tandem and single kayaks from the marina at the main recreation area. Paddle along 14 miles of shoreline and discover sandy beaches, great fishing spots, and spectacular wildlife viewing.
Patio boats, motor boats, kayaks and row boats are also available for rent daily. The aluminum fishing boats come equipped with a four stroke motor.
The main recreation area and the boat launch offer picnic sites with tables and barbecues. All of the sites have lake views. The main recreation area has a children's playground and lawn area.
The visitor center offers a complete array of fishing bait and tackle, as well as outdoor clothing, hats, sunscreen, gifts, and supplies. The Cafe offers premium coffee and a range of healthy snacks for everyone.
