    Re: Small Apex?

I've fished the small Apexes behind 4/0 dodgers for kokanee with good success. Have caught trout on them this way also. When I do this, I use about a 36 inch leader on the Apex. Apexes also work well without a dodger. Deciding whether or not to use a dodger with an Apex depends on what the fish tell you. Try it both ways and see which works best. An Apex has plenty of action all by itself so a dodger isn't needed to give it any action. A dodger however, can attract fish to the area near the lure. This can often get you some additional fish.. i picked up a couple Apex lures, but haven't tried them. not sure how.

Do you fish them behind a dodger usually, or just tie them on????

I love the Apex shadcolors, about all of them any where there is trout or kokanee they work. you can trol them at 1.3 to 2.5 mph.

I've used a silver and a silver/blue apex to catch kings in Del Valle, nothing big yet but at least I know they work.

    BigWilly,

Here is an Apex rigged for kokanee (2 hooks on the kokanee killer) the "trout killer" has a single hook

    *

You can run these with scented corn on each hook and they are...kokanee killers!

    Hindrid,

Along with a couple of other people who have stated the standard colors for Melones, I have caught 1 trout over 5 lbs at Melones and numerous 3 to 4 lbs on the shad colored patter running them behind a dodger. They seem to do real well under the bait balls and moving real slow. This lure has been one of biggest producers this year. I will now try a larger apex under these for some larger fish. Thanks for the tip Kokaneemart.

    Hindrid,

I agree with One More Pass that the pink, red and Flame do very well for kokanee in New Melones, IVR and Berryessa. I have done well with the chartreuse in Bullards and Pardee. My favorite is the 1.5 Apex or 2.0 Pro Troll size (same size... ) and I really like the echip on the new Pro Trolls.

I also like the 4.5 and 5 inch size Proll Troll StrikeKing Apex with the echip. These can be fished at the slow kokanee speeds (.9 to 1.5 mph) stacked @ 15 - 20 ft. below the kokanee lures to go after those fish that feed on the kokanee (big Mackinaw and Browns!).*

This time of year I like the firetiger in stained water and the echip helps the trout find the bait. Remember to scent them...it also helps! ;D

    Hey Dave,

I used em the 1st time 2 weeks ago at folsom and we got our 2 best rbts[18"] on the #2 in rbt and a couple of kings at 25' trolling at 2.6mph.

They now have a higher spot in my rotation.
I would have used at least 1 today at folsom but my rig is in the shop after I saw gas shooting out of my carbs when I pumped the bulb to prime it.
