    Re: Lake Alpine Recommendations

The trick to Alpine isn't location as much as it is leader length. At the dam, you have to remember that there is a deep channel that runs all the way to the houses. It's important to figure out where this is to catch fish on a regular basis. Color also has a little to do with it when the water clarity changes. 3 feet off the bottom has worked out great for me for the most part, unless the weeds are a little think. Then you have to go a little longer in leader length.

With the water level low and the fish feeding up high, you may need to have a little stink on it as well. I've arrived at the lake in the middle of the day with people shoulder to shoulder. No one catching or getting a bite. Just to limit out in an hour. You want to talk about dirty looks!!!!! But they all are pleased when you just share the secret. Good luck and tight lines everyone.

A buddy and I fished it yesterday for a couple hours and managed one little rainbow at the western end of the lake, we hardly saw any other fish caught while we were there.

    Re: Lake Alpine Recommendations

I just got home from Lake Alpine yesterday after camping for 4 nights. Fishing was good for me as it usually is but not red hot. The lake level has dropped quite a bit since I was there a month ago. The dam is a good place to fish but it gets crowded early and the prime spots at the dam go quick.
I fished on the large rock sticks out into the lake near the dam. It is closer to the launch area. I did well fishing from here with rainbow powerbait and my daughter's color of choice was red, white, and blue. We actually did better with the red, white, and blue. When I was there a month ago rainbow and the purple nymph color was the hot ticket. The red, white, and blue has a purplish color to it if that matters.
Fish size was mostly small, 10 to 12 inchers. Lots of fish feeding on the surface bugs so if you fly fish, have at it. I tried a fly bobber combo with no luck. I did manage a nice 3 lber at my daughter's secret spot off the rocks using "her" powerbait color.
The fire is pretty much out compared to when we headed up there last wednesday so that is not a problem. Great place, go enjoy!

Thanks for reporting back. Sounds like a good time.

I was thru there yesterday on a motorcycle ride and man was the lake loaded with people and especially kayaks. I have never seen it like that before but I was just passing by. We saw all the fire crews working as well but no road issues.

    Glad you had fun!
    Cheers,

    Re: Lake Alpine Recommendations

Well before going today I had checked and as advertised the road was open. The fire came pretty close to the houses and was still smoldering in spots with lots of guys still working on the hotspots but from what I could tell the fire was out unless it flares up again.
So we started off on the end nearest the damn and didn't have much luck. We packed up and went about midway between the end of the road on the west end and the boat launch on a rock formation just off shore. We had to cross a small rock bridge but the far side of the rocks had a lot of fish activity and from the look of it deep water. A guy next to us pulled in a nice sized trout and we followed up with three small ones...nothing spectacular but hey it's the middle of summer and we were please to be catching trout.
Although it was a 2.5 hour ride it was well worth it. Spend the morning fishing from 7am until about 11:30 and the called it a day. Went to the launch area, bbq'ed lunch and let my 12 year old twins play in the water for a bit. The weather was nice and although there were a lot of cars in the parking lot very few people were on the water. I think they were hanging out at the resort which sounded like it had live music going. Going to go back with the boat or the camping trailer to stay longer.
Good luck Saxman and just to let you know we didn't catch anything until 9 when things seemed to turn on for everyone.

I'm also heading up to Lake Alpine, but not until Tuesday. A good place to bank it is at the end of the road just pass the first camp ground. Take the first right after the iron gate and keep going pass the entrance to the camping area. When it dead ends, you are there. If you are still there on Tuesday and Wed., I'll be in my valco. Good luck .... Sax

Not sure if you seen this.

    Lake Alpine Recommendations

Going to Lake Alpine for the first time to check it out and do a little bank fishing. I read fishing is best by the damn right now. Is that accessible by foot? Where else might be a good spot for us to try out around the lake. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
