Fishing The Pearl

Tired of fishing the same old holes? Want some world-class fishing, dining and sleeping? How about a semi-tropical, exotic get-away for two, drenched in history, sun, beaches, luxury and fish? Did we say BIG FISH? Read on...

MarlinOne of the highly favored, yet lesser known, destinations for an exotic fishing adventures these days is Mazatlan, Mexico, also known as the "Pearl of the Pacific". This city, on the mainland Mexico side of the Sea of Cortez, features one of the most beautiful natural harbors found anywhere in the world with miles of uninterrupted beaches and semi-tropical weather.

The fishing in Mazatlan is superb! Many types of fish are encountered; Striped and Blue Marlin, Swordfish, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Mako Shark, Dorado, Wahoo as well as many others. In Mazatlan's waters, as is common in the rest of the Sea of Cortez, fishing seems to heat up as the temperature rises. Although fishing is generally considered to be excellent all year long, the months of June, July and August experience the hottest daytime temperatures as well as the hottest fishing. Everything cooks, including the fishing!

Shrimp is a major industry in Mazatlan, with many commercial shrimp farms in operation. The largest shrimp fleet in the world operates out of Mazatlan, and it is, therefore, no surprise that Mazatlan's dining scene centers around seafood, particularly shrimp.

Many quality restaurants are situated in the city featuring a large variety of seafood, steaks, prime rib and fine Mexican food. In the better restaurants the beef is imported from the U.S, and fruits and vegetables are at their freshest, since Mazatlan is surrounded by major agricultural enterprises. Many of the restaurants feature live bands, with Mariachi music being a favorite. This city also has many fine nightclubs featuring live music and dancing till all hours of the night - or early morning if you can last!

If traveling with Neptune Adventure, you will typically have purchased 5 days/4 nights vacation with 3 days of fishing, including roundtrip air, ground transfers, accommodations at the 4-star Las Flores Hotel Suites and all taxes. The Las Flores Hotel Suites, a beautiful beachfront hotel, is located in the midst of Mazatlan's famed Golden Zone. The hotel is surrounded by fine restaurants, clubs, and shopping opportunities.

StarFleet and the Los Flores Hotel Suites Your 3 days of fishing are aboard one of Bill Heimpel's StarFleet sportfishing cruisers and includes fishing licenses and all necessary fishing tackle (bring your favorite rod if you must). The StarFleet is one of Mexico's finest and most modern fishing fleets. With more than 30 years experience, it is the largest fleet in Mazatlan. The fleet operates modern sportfishing cruisers ranging from 34' to 43'.

StarFleet clients have established several IGFA world records, including those for Striped Marlin and Dorado. To help preserve the beautiful billfish species for the enjoyment of future generations of anglers, The StarFleet and Neptune Adventures vigorously support the "Catch and Release" of all billfish. So practice up on your CPR - Catch, Photograph and Release - when you've hooked a billfish.

Your daily catch is cleaned and bagged (if you do NOT practice catch and release) by the boat crew upon your return to the dock. The hotel will place your bagged catch in their freezer facilities and hold it for you for your checkout, then just pack your fish in your ice chest, and your ready for your trip home.

Make no mistake, Mazatlan is not a dusty, dirt-street fishing village sleepily lying beside the Sea of Cortez. It is, rather, a large modern city with all the attractions one can expect of a major resort area. The hustle and bustle of a large city is there, but amazingly, Mazatlan seems to "hustle and bustle" at a much slower and relaxed pace.

Sportfishing trips to Mazatlan are pure pleasure, both day and night. We at Neptune Adventures believe that good fishing is essential to a person's quality of life, and you can be assured of an enjoyable experience each time you visit this area.
