"Compy" Compomizzo, with the support of West Delta Chapter of the California Striped Bass Association, is sponsoring the first annual Rivertown Striped Bass Derby on September 22-24 in Antioch. Tickets are $10.00 for anglers 16 and over, and anglers 15 and under are free as long as they are with a licensed participating adult. The fishing areas are limited to the Sacramento/San Joaquin River from Harris Harbor, West Pittsburg to Rio Vista and Three Mile Slough. The awards ceremony will be held on September 24 at 1:00 in the afternoon at the Barbara Price Park near the Antioch Marina. Prizes for the adult category include $1,000 for the largest striper, which must be at least 26 inches, $500 for the second largest striper, $500 for the largest sturgeon, and $250 for the second largest sturgeon, along with $500 for the largest catfish. The prize for the under 15 category is a $500 US savings bond. |

Launching and tickets are available at Lauritzen's Harbor Bridgehead Road in Oakley. Mello's Bait and Tackle Shop at the Antioch Municipal Marina and Gotcha! Bait and Tackle Shop at 3500 East 18th Street across from K-Mart have tickets available, along with being the 2 weigh stations available for the derby. Overnight berthing is available at the Antioch Marina located at the foot of "L" Street. A 10 percent discount is available to people participating in the derby.
