Pyramid Lake 2nd Annual Cutthroat Trout Tournament

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe is sponsoring the 2nd annual cutthroat trout tournament on Saturday, December 9 in Nevada.

"We had close to 200 people turnout for the tournament last year, and we are expecting around 300 people this year," said Virginia Calico of the Pyramid Lake Marina.

The entry fee for the tournament is $40 per angler and will include a t-shirt and breakfast sandwich. Check in will begin at 5:00 in the morning. The tournament will begin at 7:00 in the morning and weigh-in will begin at 5:00 in the evening. Anglers are allowed a total weight of one or two legal keepers.

The first 100 anglers to weigh-in a legal adipose-clipped fish will receive a cap. The top 8 weights will receive cash prizes. First place will receive $1,500 and a jacket. Second will get $800 and a jacket. And third place will be rewarded $500 and a jacket. Fourth place walks away with $400, fifth place takes $300, sixth place gets $200, seventh place a $100, and eighth will receive $50.

Registration must be postmarked by Friday, December 1 to receive pre-registration for mail-in. Registration can be mailed to:

Early registration for walk-in entries must be done by Monday, December 4. Walk in location include I-80 Smokeshop, Pyramid Lake Fisheries, Pyramid Lake Marina, Pyramid Lake Store, Nixon Store, and Mark, Fore & Strike (on December 1 only). Late registration can only be done on December 9 from 5:00-7:00 a.m. at the Pyramid Lake Marina Store and will cost an extra $10.

"Anglers are catching a lot of little ones right now, but we had a couple 10 pounders weighed in this week. We expect to improve as we get closer to the tournament," said Calico.
